Active Transportation

A new initiative, spearheaded by the Active Living Team, is gaining momentum. Through the Active Transportation Campaign, the team is prompting Oxford County residents to choose an active way to travel whenever possible.

The Active Living Team, a component of the Heart Health Network, is comprised of members from the Public Health, Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg Recreation departments, the Woodstock Y, South Gate Centre and the Thames Valley Children's Centre.

The goal of the Active Transportation team is to encourage people to choose the active way whenever possible and is launching several new community initiatives throughout 2005 to reach that goal.

  • Printed materials are being distributed to work sites, outlining the benefits of Active Transportation and suggestions on how to Get Up and Go!
  • The community will be asked to Get Up and Go! and participate in Go For Green's National Commuter Challenge, June 5-11, 2005.
  • Schools will be invited to participate in the International Walk to School Week, October 3-7, 2005. Stay tuned for more details.
