Take every opportunity to eat well!

Get a start on good health. Healthy Eating is a vital part of staying healthy and feeling good about yourself.
Make your choices work for you!

    • Make healthier food choices easier by following Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
    • Reduce your intake of saturated fats, which are solid at room temperature. They are found in animal products such as fat marbled meat, poultry skin, whole milk, cream and cheese, as well as coconut, palm and palm kernel oils, sometimes called tropical oils. Cookies, cakes, crackers andn other convenience foods also contain saturated fats and some trans fats. Trans fat is created during the process of hydrogenation, used to turn a liquid oil into a solid fat product, such as shortening. The amount and type of fat affects blood cholesterol levels more than dietary cholesterol. Saturated and trans fat tend to raise blood levels of LDL-cholesterol or bad cholesterol.
    • Choose lower-fat dairy products, leaner meat and foods prepared with
    • little or no fat, more often. Higher fat food choices can be part of a healthy eating pattern when used in moderation.
    • Increase fibre by eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, and legumes. Choosing meatless meals once in a while and replacing the meat with beans, peas and lentils is also a healthy choice.
    • Maintain a healthy body weight by enjoying physical activity and healthy eating.
