You Can Prevent Falls! Protect Your Way of Life *Always consult your health professional before starting an activity programme* - Physical Activity is a key component to falls prevention.
- It is never too late to be physically active.
- Physical activity increases muscle strength, balance and coordination.
- Make activity part of your daily life. Any exercise is better than none.
- Research is showing that physical activity helps to manage such conditions as arthritis, diabetes and high blood pressure.
It takes time to build strength and endurance. Start slowly and gradually increase the time and intensity. Ideally you want to aim for at least 30 – 60 minutes of moderate activity (increase heart & breathing rate), 4 – 7 days a week. The time can be accumulated 10 minutes at a time.
